Natural Landscapes at Storm King w/Darrel Morrison
New Jersey Chapter of the Assoc. of Professional Landscape Designers
October 29, 2008, 8:30am - 4:30pm
Spend the day with APLD-NJ and renowned landscape architect Darrel Morrison who is an advocate of ecologically based environmental design.
He will present a retrospective of his design practice, including a slide-lecture tour of signature projects (such as the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin, Texas; the Wisconsin Native Garden at the University of Wisconsin Arboretum in Madison, Wisconsin; the Museum of History in Atlanta, Georgia) and an exploration of his design methods in which natural landscapes serve as inspiration and model for designed landscapes.
Continental breakfast, lectures, and gourmet lunch will take place at quaint and historic Painters Tavern in Cornwall-on-Hudson, New York.
Our afternoon session will take place at Storm King Art Center in nearby Mountainview, New York, the 500 acre sculpture park where Morrison has been an ecology and design consultant since 1997. A tram tour for an overview of the park will be followed by a walking tour to specific sites with Mr. Morrison as our guide.
Registration limited to 35 participants.

Plant Invaders of Mid-Atlantic Natural Areas
Booklet on the web. This amazing text is available for free download, very inexpensive hardcopy order and online access interface. It includes many invasive species and non-natives that are often used in landscape plantings. The best thing is that NATIVE ALTERNATIVES are also listed when you look up a specific species. Trees, shrubs and perennials are listed.
