Lists of NJ Trees and Tall Shrubs by County
These lists can serve as a guide for selecting trees for your area. They were compiled from the US Department of Agriculture Plants Database.
In each Excel file, first tab (sheet) lists all the plants. Subsequent tabs each give plants only in the specified county. Each sheet gives the scientific name, common name, and list of all counties the plant is found in. The scientific name also is hyperlinked to the USDA Plants Profile. Depending upon your network speed, it may take a while to download these files. It is faster to save the file first and then open it in Excel

Lists of NJ Trees and Tall Shrubs by Underlying Geology
Rutgers has compiled lists of trees and shrubs based on the five physiographic regions determined by the underlying geology: Ridge and Valley, Highlands, Piedmont, Inner Coastal Plain and Outer Coastal Plain.
The list of native riparian plants has been compiled for each region of New Jersey. These lists do not include every riparian species found in a region; they emphasize the plant species which are most common and those which are reasonably available from commmercial nurseries.
